King Dylan was marginally quickest on a brilliant night for Liz and Rab McNair, and the owning KSS Syndicate, as they landed all three semis of the BGBF British Bred Derby over 500m at Sheffield on Tuesday. Sent off a hot 1-2 favourite for the opening Semi Final, King Dylan enjoyed plenty of space on  the rails on the run up then got inside early leader Westcot Norman to assert off the second. Drawing clear with every stride, the February 2017 son of Eden The Kid and Skate On came home almost five lengths to the good of Sharpys Pluto [...]

BGBF British Bred Derby – First Round Review

Excitement after the first round of the BGBF Derby has been tempered slightly with the news today that Liz and Rab McNair’s King Turbo picked up a tendon injury during the race and will be retired, after a fantastic career. Winner of the Towcester Gold Cup, the Gold Cup at Monmore, the Kent Derby and the Olympic at Hove in 2018, then the Winter Derby at Hove early this year, his record sort of gives the lie to those who still say he was 'only good for British Bred races'! Would he have got to the Final, or even won, [...]

Geelo Monty – BGBF British Bred Derby Winner

Geelo Monty landed the BGBF British Bred Derby decider worth a smart £7,500 for trainer Carl Perry at Sheffield this evening with a barnstorming finish to land the honours. Bred, owned (Geelo Racing) and trained by Carl Perry, Geelo Monty reeled in long time leader, Viking Jerry who had run a gallant race in defeat, to claim victory by half a length in 29.05. Down To The Felt was back in third spot. The black son of Ballymac Eske and Macys Perfect is no stranger to big race success, he landed the BGBF Puppy Cup in April 2017 at the [...]

The Semi Finals of the BGBF British Bred Derby took place at Sheffield this evening and didn't disappoint with some fine displays. The opening Semi Final was landed by Carl Perry's Geelo Monty as he produced a strong running performance to land the spoils from Viking Jerry and Lowgate Rudy. The son of Ballymac Eske and Macys Pergfect returned to winning ways after a barren spell as he swooped around the final two bends to pull away to a comprehensive four and a half length victory in 29.00. The race had been a scrappy affair with crowding at the opening [...]

Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield, hosted four heats of top class action as the BGBF British Bred Heats got underway this evening. The opening heat saw a facile success for last year's BGBF Derby Champion, King Elvis. Trained by Liz McNair, leading early he was never troubled as he cruised to a length and half victory from runner up Down to The Felt and third placed Viking Jerry. From the superb Tullymurry Act and Skate On litter he stopped the clock in 29.20. The second heat went to John Mullins' Romeo Mandate who's strong running style allowed him to power home for [...]
