Fabulous Azurra – BGBF British Bred Derby
The Final of the BGBF British bred Derby, held at Sheffield on 20 December, saw a great second-year-running win from the Firmager bred, Janssens trained, Fabulous Azurra! Patrick Janssens first wished Signet Denver – one of Kevin Hutton’s runners, who had broken down in the race – a speedy recovery, then said: “Lucy – as she is known at home – is an absolute star. To go through two British [...]
Signet Denver – 76th BGBF British Bred Produce Stakes
It was another great night for British breeding on Sunday, with a fantastic Final of the 76th BGBF British Bred Produce Stakes at Swindon! Signet Denver shot out of the traps like a bullet and there was absolutely no catching him – what a dog! How amazing that five from the same litter got through to the Final. You might think that this reflects a low year for British breeding, [...]
Fabulous Azurra – BGBF Oaks Final
Another great BGBF competition drew to a close this week, with the Final of our British Bred Oaks at Henlow. Patrick Janssens’ Fabulous Azurra had won our British Bred Derby last December, so we were expecting a good run from her, but Kim Gooding’s homebred Shockwave Amber had also been in that Final at Sheffield, so it wasn’t all cut and dried! ‘Marilyn’, as Amber is called at [...]
Sonic Emjay – BGBF Sprint 2022
The BGBF Category Two British Bred Sprint saw us return to Harlow after a couple of years’ absence from the friendly Essex track. Our £3000 to the winner Final on Wednesday saw an impressive winner in the shape of Sonic Emjay, trained by John Mullins and owned by breeder Kelly Macari along with Mark Bates, Simon Oakes and Alex Wade, who also took home a handsome trophy and a [...]
Pocket Lola – The 75th British Bred Produce Stakes
Pocket Lola, already an impressive British Bred winner earlier in the year when landing the BGBF TruFrame British Bred Champions Stake at Towcester, claimed more major British Bred honours as she produced a thrilling performance to win the 75th British Bred Two-Year-Old Produce Stakes at Swindon on Sunday. Trained by Seamus Cahill at Hove for her owners the Magnificent Five (UK), which he and wife Teresa, along with Myles and Clare [...]
Produce Stakes – First Round Review
The 75th Two-Year-Old BGBF Produce Stakes got underway at Swindon this week and though the entry numbers were admittedly disappointing and something the BGBF committee will have to review moving forwards there was no doubting the quality of some of the participants. Such quality was perfectly highlighted by Seamus Cahill's English Puppy Derby Final Winner of 2020 Surprising. An immensely talented greyhound, he landed heat one by fully 9 [...]
BGBF TruFrame British Bred Champions Stake Review
Three exciting heats of the BGBF TruFrame British Bred Champions Stake at Towcester last night have led to a very classy line-up in the Final, to be held next Saturday, Derby night. This £3000 (plus jacket and Trophy) to the winner Category 2 competition is kindly co-sponsored with us by TruFrame Ltd, the company run by long time supporter of British Breeding David Firmager, and we are very pleased [...]
New Competition Announcement – BGBF Dual Distance Stakes
An exciting new competition for British breds, sponsored by the British Greyhound Breeders’ Forum, will be run at Sheffield in May! The BGBF British Bred Dual Distance Stake, for 18 greyhounds and 3 reserves, born and earmarked in the UK, will take the form of three heats over 660 metres, with two from each heat going forward to the Final the following week – which will be over a standard [...]
Breeders Stakes Semi Final Review
Monday evening at Nottingham's Colwick Park stadium saw the semi-finals of the £6500 to the winner Category One BGBF British Breeders Stakes taking place. Earlier in the evening we also saw the heats of the £1500 to the winner Category Three BGBF British Bred Midland Sprint taking place over the National Sprint distance of 305m. Heat one of the sprint competition went to Liz and Rab McNair's King Bruno (Leamaneigh [...]
