King Dylan was marginally quickest on a brilliant night for Liz and Rab McNair, and the owning KSS Syndicate, as they landed all three semis of the BGBF British Bred Derby over 500m at Sheffield on Tuesday.

Sent off a hot 1-2 favourite for the opening Semi Final, King Dylan enjoyed plenty of space on  the rails on the run up then got inside early leader Westcot Norman to assert off the second. Drawing clear with every stride, the February 2017 son of Eden The Kid and Skate On came home almost five lengths to the good of Sharpys Pluto in 28.70sec.

The second Semi Final saw Rackitup Charlie lead early but King Lennon moved into second before halfway before forging to the front off the last. He pulled away to match King Dylan’s winning margin of four and three-quarter lengths in a time just one spot slower, 28.71sec, with Sharpys Rocket coming from last to reach the final for the second successive year and claim a second finalist for trainer John Sharp.

The King hat-trick was completed when King Sheeran took early command in the third Semi Final and, although he came back to the field slightly on the run in, he still scored by one and a half lengths from Russelena Bowwow in 28.81sec.

King Dylan and King Lennon now have a dual Category One final assignment with an appearance in Friday’s Coral Essex Vase final at Romford prior to the Sheffield decider next Tuesday, both are at the peak of their fitness and the McNair team have ensured that they are well able to take it all in their stride.
