An exciting new competition for British breds, sponsored by the British Greyhound Breeders’ Forum, will be run at Sheffield in May! The BGBF British Bred Dual Distance Stake, for 18 greyhounds and 3 reserves, born and earmarked in the UK, will take the form of three heats over 660 metres, with two from each heat going forward to the Final the following week – which will be over a standard 500m.

‘Dual Distance comps normally take the form of the shorter distance first, followed by the longer distance for the Final,’ said a spokesperson for the BGBF, ‘This time we thought we would turn that on its head and run the longer distance first to give the stayers a chance to shine!’

This new Category 2 competition will reward the winner of the Final with £3,000 plus trophy and jacket, £500 to the second placed, others £200. The breeders of the Finalists will also be rewarded – £200 to the breeder of the winning greyhound, £75 each to the rest. Entries close noon, Friday 30 April.
