A great start to the BGBF Produce Stakes on Sunday: congratulations to the ten heat winners and to all those who are through to the next round on Wednesday. They’re on the way now! King Drake led home a memorable one-two-three for Liz McNair in a messy BGBF British Bred Sprint Final at Towcester to land £3,000 prize on offer. The Kent-based handler had four of the six finalists in the 270m decider, all of them from the classy May 2018 litter by Leamaneigh Turbo out of three-time GBGB Dam of Best British-bred litter Skate On. Chris Akers ended a tough week on a high when his Fearsome Encore held off Queen Dolly to claim the £3,000 BGBF British Bred Oaks final over 483m at Doncaster. The winning trainer saw top duo Gymstar Elusive and Sonic Spur struck down by injury within 24 hours of each other last week but Fearsome Encore reversed semi-final form with Acomb Lillian to claim the title. We're delighted to be able to confirm the dates for this years BGBF Scurry competition, as well as announce a switch in venues which will see us running this years renewal at Harlow. In recent years the Cat 2 £3,000 to the winner competition for British Breds has been run at Henlow, but this year will be at Harlow, over three weeks with the Final on Wednesday 14 October. A great night for British Breeders in the North is planned for Thursday 15 October at Newcastle when we will see the Finals of two competitions sponsored by the British Greyhound Breeders’ Forum, plus four supporting BGBF races for British Breds! Centre stage will be the Final of the BGBF Northern Maiden Standard, a Cat 2 worth £3000 to the winner; this competition will be for 36 British breds and six reserves, over 480m, three rounds starting Thursday 1 October.  Then there will be the Final of the BGBF British Bred Sprint, a £1500 to the winner Cat 3 over 290m, [...]

The first phase of the British Greyhound Breeders’ Forum series of for post-lockdown 2020 is revealed today in the GBGB Calendar. Most importantly for British Breeders, the BGBF Swindon Produce Stakes will now take place in September, with the Final on Sunday 20th. The BGBF British Bred Oaks, a Cat 2 competition which will showcase the very best of British Bred bitches, will take place at Doncaster in August, with the Final on Monday 24th.  Also in August, there will be a BGBF British Bred Sprint at Towcester, another Cat 2 event, with the final on Sunday 30th. The £4,000 BGBF British Bred Maidens final over 400m was a significant milestone for young trainer Nathan Hunt, who landed his first major victory since taking over the training licence from Phil Simmonds earlier this year courtesy of Go Pat Go. No doubt his first of many. British breeders have good reason to be looking forward to 2020 with anticipation as the series of BGBF sponsored races for British Breds starts to be rolled out! The British Greyhound Breeders’ Forum manages monies awarded by the British Greyhound Racing Fund and other sources, including SIS. Last year after a successful first half, funding from the BGRF was increased and enabled more new races to be put on, including the highly successful Cat 1 Northern Plate. This year the monies available from the Fund have been increased yet again, some 28% up on last year’s final allocation, and the Forum [...]

British Bred Sharpys Rocket’s handy win in a 500m A1 at Sheffield on Saturday brings the total number of races won by the litter he is from up to 100! The April ‘17 litter was bred by owner/ trainer John Sharp out of John Reidy’s open race winner Malls Pet and by 2014 Ladbrokes Gold Cup winner Viking Jack – and every one of the eight dogs and two bitches in the litter has contributed to the total, six of them having won Open races!
