The £4,000 BGBF British Bred Maidens final over 400m was a significant milestone for young trainer Nathan Hunt, who landed his first major victory since taking over the training licence from Phil Simmonds earlier this year courtesy of Go Pat Go. No doubt his first of many.

The inside draw proved crucial as the home-bred bitch was able to improve from a sluggish start before rounding the first couple of turns and setting off in pursuit of leader Roxys Florence before forcing her past at the final bend. Powering clear, she went on to beat favourite Queen Lilly by three and a half lengths in 24.21sec.

Clearly emotional with the victory, Hunt paid tribute to the British Greyhound Breeders Forum who stage the valuable series of events. “It’s great to have these British-bred competitions so thanks to the committee again. It’s not just the prize money tonight but the heats too.”

Winning owner Dave Hawes said: “I knew once she kept hold of the rails she was away. Nathan took her away to give her experience when she was younger and she’s come back and is a proper Romford dog now.”
