Romeo Rumble, trained by John Mullins, produced a sensational performance to land the BGBF / Nottingham British Breeders Stakes Final at Nottingham on Monday.

Sent off a friendless 12/1 shot, the striking brindle bred and owned by David Firmager, made a mockery of the large odds as he produced a performance worthy of the brilliant £7,500 first prize on offer. Breaking smartly and holding the favorite, King Sheeran, into the opening turn, the powerful son of Rumble Impact and Fabulous Pin was always going to be tough to reel in off the front. King Turbo and Down To The Felt had joined King Sheeran in pursuit of the leader out the second bend and along the far side but it was all in vain as he relentlessly galloped his way home to a memorable success. He crossed the line two and a quarter lengths in front of Down To The Felt in 29.77.

Winning trainer John Mullins said afterwards: “He did what he had to do and has run so well. This has been a great competition for us, winning it with Badabing and then second with Carn Brea last year. There’s another British Bred Category One coming up at Sheffield and he’ll go there now.”

The BGBF would like to thank all owners and trainers who have supported the competition and to Nottingham for their hospitality and great coverage of the competition. The Final was as good a line up as we have seen in British competitions in recent times and no doubt they will all continue to fly the flag for British Breeding.
