Four second round heats of the 73rd British Bred Produce Stakes took place at Swindon on Wednesday lunchtime.  With a place in next weeks semi finals at stake , connections were hoping to secure a place in the first three home in order to progress.

King Cash (Eden The Kid x Skate On , February 2017) was sent off the 4/6 odds on favourite for heat one and supporters were never in a moments worry as the Liz McNair trained , K.S.S Syndicate owned and bred brindle pinged out and made every post a winning one in 2890 (-30).  Saving Face (Kinloch Brae x Newinn This Way , July 2017) , trained by BGBF committee member John Mullins , ran a game second beaten 4 3/4 lengths with Angie Kibble’s Emotional (Droopys Jet x Wiki Waki Woo , December 2017) a further 2 1/4 lengths behind in third but all importantly claiming a place in next weeks semi final.

John Mullins didn’t have to wait long before turning the tables at the head of the field on Liz McNair and the team.  His Romeo Rumble (Rumble Impact x Fabulous Pin , June 2017) took an early lead in heat 2 and that put the race beyond doubt from an early stage.  He eventually ran out a 3 1/2 length winner in 2882 (-30). King Diamond and King Dylan , litter mates from the February 2017 , Eden The Kid x Skate On litter , made it three through to next weeks semis for Team McNair by finishing in second and third respectively.

Although this competition was beginning to look a little like the McNair and Mullins show , Derby winning trainer Kevin Hutton was to lay his cards down by taking heat 3 with his George and Mike Burton owned London Nights (Laughill Blake x Terminator , July 2017).  Leading by the bend after showing good early pace , Nights held on to win by a neck from Queen Cher (Eden The Kid x Shaws Dilemma , May 2017) in second and the John Mullins trained Romeo Ruben (Rumble Impact x Fabulous Pin , June 2017).  The winner recorded 2930 (-30) with a neck and half a length back to the second and third respectively.

Heat 4 looked a match on paper between two more brothers from the February 2017 Eden The Kid x Skate On Litter bred by Brendan Keogh and the K.S.S Team.  King Lennon was sent off the 4/7 favourite for the race but it was King Sheeran priced at 5/4 who ran out a 1 1/2 length winner from his kennel and litter mate.  Waki Racer (Scolari Me Daddy x Wiki Waki Woo , March 2017) provided his both his dam Wiki Waki Woo and also his trainer Angie Kibble with a second qualifier for next weeks semis.

Liz , Rab and the K.S.S Team as so often in recent years deservedly take the plaudits for an excellent days work that see’s six of their home bred team qualifying for the semi finals.  Connections will rightfully be delighted but they’ll know as well as anybody their work is not yet done with some quality British Bred greyhounds still remaining in opposition.
