There will be an exciting and festive feel to the BGBF Derby Final on Tuesday with the three Kings going for gold, but they do have some decent opposition, in the form of another pair of brothers, John Sharp’s Sharpys Pluto and Sharpys Rocket, April ‘17 pups by Viking Jack out of Malls Pet – Viking Jack of course was the sire of last year’s BGBF Derby winner, Viking Jerry. Russelena Bowwow makes up the six – a November 17 dog by Tullymurry Act, out of Russelena Barbie, trained by Martin Cutler for owner / breeder Neil Russell, who is also not to be overlooked!
Liz Mort, chair of the British Greyhound Breeders Forum added “We’ve six top dogs lining up for the final next week and are looking forward to that. Of course on form the Kings have the edge. There was only one spot between Dylan and Lennon in the semis and are clearly enjoying being in two competitions at once – they are thriving on it.”
She continued “I’m delighted with the way the BGBF competitions have panned out this year. We’ve seen some very good dogs indeed, and some excellent racing. We’ve run our Category Twos and expanded our Category Ones to take in more of the northern tracks.
“Hopefully this continues to proved a real inspiration to breeders and any prospective breeders out there who want to join the party! These events have brought to the fore a good deal of British-bred talent that we hadn’t generally seen in terms of depth. We’re currently planning our 2020 schedule and hope to release details soon.
“I’d like to thank Sheffield for hosting our British Bred Derby for the second year. They are doing an excellent job once again and, while we are ready to enjoy Tuesday night, are certainly planning to be back next year for more of the same.”
All in all it bodes well for a great Final on Tuesday! Remember that the BGBF AGM will take place at 5.30, before racing. Everyone with an interest in British breeding is welcome!

SHARPYS PLUTO
Viking Jack x Mall Pet (Mar ’17)
Trainer : Mr J.Sharp | Owner(s) : Mr J.Sharp | Breeder : Mr J.Sharp
An ultra consistent dog who is a credit to connections, winner of 14 of his 50 races, he gives his all every time on the track. Will need to break very smartly to hold the early paced runners to the bend but if doing so possesses enough power coming home to spring a big upset.

KING LENNON
Eden The Kid x Skate On (Feb ’17)
Trainer : Mrs L.McNair | Owner(s) : K.S.S Syndicate | Breeder : Mr B.Keogh
Absolutely thriving on his racing at the moment, winner of both previous rounds and fresh from finishing 3rd in the Romford Essex Vase on Friday. The first of three runners for the McNairs, only a spot separated him and brother Dylan in the Semi’s, the dash to the bend will be all important.

RUSSELENA BOWWOW
Tullymurry Act x Russelena Barbie (Nov ’17)
Trainer : Mr M.Cutler | Owner(s) : Mr N.D.Russell | Breeder : Mr M.Cutler
The youngest and most inexperienced of the Finalist with only 7 runs to his name. Grabbed his first victory in fine style as he ran out a six length winner in the opening round here. A dog with a bright future and who shouldn’t be overlooked.

KING DYLAN
Eden The Kid x Skate On (Feb ’17)
Trainer : Mrs L.McNair | Owner(s) : K.S.S Syndicate | Breeder : Mr B.Keogh
The second of the McNair team and quickest of the three kings when winning in Semi Finals. He was a gallant runner up on Friday evening in the Romford Essex Vase. Another who is thriving on the quick runs and goes to traps one of the joint favs, and having won both previous rounds here in fine style, looks to have a big chance. His 28.47 run in the Semi Final was the fastest of the competition so far.

KING SHEERAN
Eden The Kid x Skate On (Feb ’17)
Trainer : Mrs L.McNair | Owner(s) : K.S.S Syndicate | Breeder : Mr B.Keogh
This year’s Produce Stakes Winner and English Derby Semi Finalist is the third of the McNair’s team. Winner of both rounds here previously he is in great form heading into the Final. A classy sort who can win from off the front or having to come from behind. A big player here as you’d expect.

SHARPYS ROCKET
Viking Jack x Mall Pet (Mar ’17)
Trainer : Mr J.Sharp | Owner(s) : Mr J.Sharp | Breeder : Mr J.Sharp
The second of John Sharp’s runners and much like his brother in Trap 1, a consistent dog who must be a pleasure to own. Winner of 11 from 57 he excels over the 6 bend trip and has won in open company over the further distance. Will need a bit of luck in running with bunching up front but if close by turning for home, he will be finishing like a train ready to capitalise.
