The BGBF are proud to bring the British breeding public another brand new event , the British Bred Scurry , to be run over the 428m trip at Henlow. Twenty four greyhounds head into the traps on Sunday afternoon, with the first three from each of four heats qualifying for next weeks semi finals. The competition is brimming with quality and looks sure to prove an exciting addition to the BGBF calendar.

Queen Adele (T2) set new track record figures in each round of the Bedfordshire Mini Derby over this course and distance last Summer and she looks sure to be sent off a strong odds on favourite to take heat one of the Scurry. Adele was unfortunately withdrawn lame from the semi final of the BGBF British Bred Oaks at Doncaster last October but recently made her racing comeback in the BresMed Northern Sprint at Sheffield. Though eliminated at the first round stage , the run will have done her no harm at all and from what looks a good draw in trap 2 she looks sure to take some beating for John Lambe. Adele became a mum for the first time in the middle of December, whelping a litter of 2 dogs and 2 bitches by Eden The Kid , they look fantastically bred and could become British Bred superstars of the future. Salacres Barley (T3), owned and trained by Peter Harnden , finished a very close third in the final of the GMG Puppy Classic at Nottingham in August last year. He had to go down on that occasion as extremely unlucky in defeat. A strong running son of Zero Ten , Barley has suffered with injury set backs since. He looks on his way back and this competition should hopefully serve as a good reintroduction to what will hopefully be a good year for him. Bubbly Yolo (T1) has just one win on his card from seven career starts to date , he’s been keeping good company since that wide margin success in A3 at home track Romford though. A recent semi finalist in the maiden derby at this venue , that experience should serve him well and trainer Paul Young will be hoping for a good run. Springberry Noir (T4) is a very experienced local for Carol Grasso. Noir is a dual open race winner over this 428m trip and though he’s not been at his best just lately , he could regain form at anytime and would be a big danger to all with a ping break. Lowgate Tom runs from trap 5 for Jim Hayton , his winning record of 2 from 34 doesn’t do justice to his ability. He’s likely to find at least a couple too good here but he’s the type who never gives in and it would be no surprise to see him claim a qualifying slot. Westcot Norman (T6) looks a very talented pup for Jonathan Blencowe. He’s a winning record of 3 wins from 10 career starts so far but this is a dog destined for a career on the open scene. He ran what was one of his most promising races to date so far when finishing 5th beaten just 4 1/2 lengths behind Roman Empire in a Puppy Open at Nottingham last week. Going up in a quick 507 he showed a nice touch of early pace that should serve him well throughout his career. He’ll have to be on his toes from the widest of draws over this trip , the short run to the turn isn’t known for being favourable to wide runners , but if he is , he shouldn’t be far away.

Rackitup Charlie runs from trap 1 in heat two , home bred by Phil Simmonds and his team , he looks a pup with a very bright future.  Eliminated at the semi final stage of the BGBF Puppy Cup at Sheffield recently , that experience will serve him well.  Salacres Flyer (T2) is an experienced bitch who has a good winning record of 10 from 43.  Usually a reliable starter with searing early pace , this track and trip should play to her strengths ideally.  Commanche Storm is a fairly new addition to the Monmore kennel of Pat Curtin.  A winner of 8 races from 31 starts so far , including 3 open race successes at Perry Barr , Storm was a recent semi finalist in the RPGTV Golden Crest at Poole.  Lowgate Rudy lines up from trap 4 for Jim Hayton.  Rudy is a dog who has various lines of form right out of the top drawer.  He’s a devastating burst of early pace and if coming away would take some leading.  Down To The Felt (T5) is a dog with huge experience and a touch of class.  Heather Dimmock’s charge was a semi finalist in the Produce Stakes at Swindon last year.  He then went on to reach the finals of both the British Bred Derby and the GMG Steel City Cup at Sheffield.  Felt was recently tried over six bends at Central Park , he led for a long way but the distance found him out.  Though this trip is a little on the short side for him , he has that bit of class that should see him go well.  Definable (T6) is another nice type for Romford trainer Phil Simmond’s.  A winner of 3 from 14 including an open at Sheffield , he can win from the front or from just off the pace.

Kitty Fisher goes from trap 1 in heat 3 for Phil Simmond’s and she looks a bitch with unlimited potential.  A winner of 3 of her 5 career starts to date at home track Romford , she has a good touch of early and looks perfectly housed here in the red jacket.  Phil Simmonds , along with assistant trainer Nathan Hunt , have had some tremendous success with bitches over recent years and this could well be another that is destined for a bright future.  Harrys Legend running from trap 2 for Angie Kibble started his racing career off like a dog with superstar potential when winning on just his second career start in 2776 (-10) over 480m at Sheffield last November when in the care of Richard Baker.  He’s not quite lived up to that potential yet , though recent victories in A3 and A2 at Swindon show that he’s finding some form.  Chicago Fire started life off in A6 at Monmore for trainer Kevin Hutton but he soon progressed through the grades.  He has a record of 6 wins from 13 starts so far and is held in such esteem that he was a member of Kevin’s recent trainers championship team at Sheffield , winning his puppy heat at huge odds of 7/1 and landing Kevin some valuable points.  At 36 kilo and just a July 2017 whelp , this greyhounds best form is surely all ahead of him.  Viking Jerry for Jim Hayton has some high class early paced form in his career to date and if getting back to his best he would lay serious claims for outright honours.  Runner up behind Geelo Monty on the British Bred Derby Final at Sheffield last year (result since reversed) , he should find this track and trip playing ideally to his strengths.  It does have to be noted however that he has been beaten by huge distances on 5 of his last 6 starts.  Hazel Kemp recently handed the training license over to her daughter Michelle Brown and she appears to have two very nice litter mates on her hands in the shape of Signature Dancer and Singature Jack.  Both greyhounds have very similar profiles , starting life off in low grade here at Henlow , they were soon progressing and both have won opens at Romford utilising their early pace.

What a servant Let Me Tell You (T1) has been for Angie Kibble and connections.  A November 2014 veteran he has a career spanning 94 races and no fewer than 23 successes.  He has many open race victories to his name in top class races , however the highlight of his career came at just shy of his 4th birthday last October when going unbeaten through the British Breeders Stakes at Nottingham.  That trophy was just reward for a career at the top level , an honest , loyal servant who must have been a pleasure to own and train.  After a short time off the track , he was a winner in A1 company at Swindon last time out , bound to improve for that run , there may be life in the old dog yet.  Deans Hail Mary might not be one of the better known greyhounds in the kennel of champion trainer Mark Wallis but she has provided the team with ten victories since debuting in A10 at Towcester.  Her last victory came in A3 here at Henlow in March.  Bubbly Majestic lines up from trap 3 for Paul Young.  Majestic’s record of 3 from 28 doesn’t do his ability justice.  This 428m trip is likely to be on the short side , but non will be finishing faster and he has kept company with some very talented greyhounds.  Burton Lodge Bob , drawn next door in trap 4 , is a second runner in this heat for Paul Young.  A winner of 17 of his 58 career races , progressing from A6 to regular A1 winner and a couple of opens too , he has a nice touch of early pace and should be well suited to track and trip.  Pyrrhic Victory is a big dog with the best of his career ahead of him.  Just an October 2017 whelp , life wasn’t easy for him as he made his debut at Romford in A1 company.  That’s a testament to his ability though and in future months it would be no surprise to see him taken on the road on a regular basis by the have dog will travel assistant Nathan Hunt.  He looks sure to be suited to a more galloping track in time.  Last but by no means least is the third representative in this competition for Michelle Brown.  Signature Callum carries a very similar profile to his two earlier mentioned litter mates.  Starting life off in the lower grades here at Henlow , he too has since added open race success to his cv over the 400m trip at Romford.  They look a talented litter who we are sure to be hearing plenty more about.
