The two British Bred St Leger Semi Finals were held at Central Park on Friday and they didn’t disappoint with two very impressive displays.

The opening Semi Final went the way of the Patrick Janssens trained Affleck Bolt (Kinloch Brae – Ardrine Lunar) who followed up his impressive victory in the Trial Stakes a week ago with another top class, front running performance. Leading at trap rise he dominated early on as he showed his rivals a clean pair of heels, the real race at this stage was for the qualifying spots in behind. It was Meadow and Princes Royal who grabbed this as they finished second and third respectively. Affleck Bolt eventually crossed the line nine and a quarter length in front of Meadow, in a time of 39.57.

The second Semi Final saw Apache Kid (Head Bound – Story Time) take victory for Swindon trainer Ben McBride. Leading up early he was soon joined by King Kid and had to play second fiddle as they went down the far side. Hitting the 5th turn Apache Kid forced his way up the inside to take up the running, with Geelo Monty making up ground in behind. Apache Kid went on to pull away to cross the line by five lengths in 39.93 with Geelo Monty running on for second whilst the tiring King Kid secured his qualifying spot in third place.

The Final looks an exciting race with a real buckle for the early pace leader expected to develop. The trap draw took place shortly after the conclusion of the second semi final and is as follows:

1 – Meadow. 2 – Princes Royal. 3 – Geelo Monty. 4 – Affleck Bolt. 5 – Apache Kid. 6 – King Kid.
