British breeding superstar Natalie Savva sadly passed away on Thursday after a lifetime in greyhound racing. Natalie’s marriage with Nick was to form the greatest British breeding partnership with winners including Westmead Lane, who started their empire back in 1972 after winning the Cesarewitch. Decades of winners followed with British breeding scoring with the likes of Westmead Power and Westmead Move striding to the forefront of the champions. Witton Derecho was crowned the inaugural BGBF British Bred Northern Plate Champion with an emphatic performance of early pace to land the wonderful £7,500 winners prize. Bred and now trained by Jill Sutherst at Sunderland, the beautiful black and white bitch from Tullymurry Act and Wake Up, was away and gone from the moment the traps opened. Newcastle staged six top quality heats of the inaugural BGBF British Bred Plate on Thursday evening which threw up some shock results but also some exceptional performances. The opening heat went the way of the prolific King Turbo for Liz McNair. Despite trouble in running he forced his way to the front at the third turn and pulled clear to win in 28.62. Liz McNair's Queen Franklin took the opening Semi Final, just holding off the very game Witton Derecho.
