Roxhill Mystique, trained by Monmore handler Paul Sallis, overcame a difficult trap draw to produce a fine performance to be crowned the BGBF Puppy Cup at Sheffield this evening.
An electric start at trap rise for the daughter of Laughill Blake and Bleisce Charm gave her the advantage to lead Lostrig Zeus into the opening turn. Holding her position at the opening turn, she led out the second where she extended her advantage over the now second Fearsome Ferigno. Turning for home it appeared as if Porterhouse and Ferigno were closing but Mystique showed great determination to hold her lead and crossed the line a length to the good, stopping the clock in 29.21
A delighted Paul Sallis said “I’m over the moon, it was fantastic run from an awful draw in trap 5. I’m absolutely delighted for partner Esther Driver who bred the litter and for owner Bob Morphew who has been fantastic owner and stuck by us through thick and thin. I’m delighted for everyone involved.”
As mentioned, bred by Esther Driver, and owned by Bob Morphew, she is part of a fantastic litter who have won over 30 races between them already at Monmore and are definitely a British Bred litter to keep an eye out for, alongside all the finalist on show tonight, they are top quality youngsters and no doubt they will go on to have successful careers in the coming months.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the owners and trainers, and Owlerton Stadium, who supported the BGBF Puppy Cup and hope to see you all at future BGBF events!
